Super Cheesy Lasagna
Equipment
- 9×13-inch baking dish
- Skillet or saucepan
- Mixing bowls
- Aluminum foil
Ingredients
For the Meat Sauce:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion diced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 1 6 oz can tomato paste
- 2 tbsp tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp dried oregano
- 1 tbsp dried basil
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp sugar to balance acidity, optional
For the Cheese Mixture:
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg beaten
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped, optional
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp salt
For the Lasagna Layers:
- 12 cooked lasagna noodles or no-boil noodles
Instructions
Prepare the Meat Sauce:
- In a large skillet or saucepan, cook ground beef over medium-high heat until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Drain excess fat, if necessary, and add the onion and garlic. Cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar.
- Bring to a simmer and cook for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat.
Prepare the Cheese Mixture:
- In a large bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, mozzarella, Parmesan, beaten egg, parsley, garlic powder, and salt. Mix until smooth and well-combined.
Assemble the Lasagna:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Place a layer of cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Spread about ⅓ of the cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by a generous layer of meat sauce.
- Repeat the layering process two more times, finishing with a top layer of meat sauce and a generous sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.
Bake the Lasagna:
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 20-30 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
Serve & Enjoy:
- Slice into squares and serve hot with garlic bread or a side salad.
Notes
- Ground turkey or ground chicken can be used instead of beef.
- Ricotta cheese can be replaced with cottage cheese for a lighter option.
- No-boil noodles can be used to save time—just add an extra ½ cup of sauce to ensure they cook through.
