Equipment
- Mixing bowls
- Baking sheet
- Pastry brush
- Parchment paper
Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 2 ¼ tsp 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water about 110°F / 45°C
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
For the Garlic Butter Topping:
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter melted
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp dried oregano optional
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese optional
Instructions
Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
Make the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, then mix until a dough forms.
- Knead on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Let the Dough Rise:
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Knots:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a 6-inch rope, tie it into a knot, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake to Perfection:
- Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
Prepare the Garlic Butter:
- While the knots are baking, mix melted butter, minced garlic, salt, oregano, and parsley in a bowl.
Brush & Serve:
- Brush the warm knots with garlic butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if using.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Use garlic powder instead of fresh garlic for a milder flavor.
- Swap Parmesan for mozzarella for a cheesier twist.
- Add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
